Assignment 2: LASA 1: Design Communications Manual

You have been appointed the vice president of the human resources department at a fictional multinational organization. It is your job to design the framework for a communications manual for this organization. The communications manual should contain best practices, company recommendations and scenarios all targeted at organizational communication.

The board of directors wants to have an overview of what you plan. Your job, in this assignment, is to prepare that overview in the form of a table of contents for the manual with a brief description of each section.

Please begin by naming your organization and defining your organization’s primary business.

Prepare a table of contents as an outline for your communications manual. Include at least five sections (communications topics) in the manual. Each section should have a heading and subheading. The heading should include a description of the topic. The subheading should include a) an example scenario of how this topic should be handled in your company b) a description of why this section is important to organizational communication and c) an explanation of how this communication policy will benefit both the employee and the organization.

Follow the table of contents with a one page action plan on how you will ensure that this communications manual is effectively implemented at your organization.

Your table of contents and action plan combined should be four to five pages in length with descriptions in Word format. Apply APA standards for writing style and references to the descriptions. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M3_A2.doc.

By the due date assigned, deliver your assignment to the Submissions Area.

On Thursday, September 28, Ms. Emily Havens will be the guest speaker in class. She is the Executive Director of Director of GRAMMY Museum Mississippi.

Conduct background research on the museum industry. Either type and print or handwrite your response and bring to class on Thursday prepared to discuss. Identify your response with your name and class. Use at least one source for your research and cite it.

Part 1 (bring to class Thursday)

  • Explain with examples what service characteristics (chapter 2) discussed in class apply to this industry?
  • Explain with examples what type of internal and external influences from the Consumer Behavior Model (chapter 3) influence the customers of this industry?
  • Explain with examples what some of the current trends in this industry are? This should not be your opinion but facts found in your research.
  • Explain with examples what some of the current challenges in this industry are? This should not be your opinion but facts found in your research.
  • Explain with examples what opportunities for growth are in this industry?

Part 2 (turn in on Canvas before class Thursday)

  • Find at least one news article pertaining to this industry and provide a URL to it in the text entry box. Discuss anything interesting you read about the article.
  • Develop at least two questions to ask the speaker based on your research and provide them in the text entry box.

Now that you have read Chapters 7-9 of Watchmen along with the supplemental materials that follow each chapter (pages 212-313 in our edition for this class), come up 3-5 examples where a rhetorical appeal or strategy is being used by the author, illustrator, or colorist. Be sure to indicate the chapter/section and page number, and also explain which strategy is being used, and why. It is highly encouraged that you consider embeding images from the graphic novel to help illustrate what you are discussing. Please make sure you are embedding the images, not attaching them, since you don’t want students to have to download anything. Check out the tutorial here (Links to an external site.) if you need help embedding an image in a discussion post. Below are some sample questions to take into consideration for your talking points in this discussion. Feel free to choose whichever ones you want to focus on:

  • Which rhetorical appeals (logos, pathos, ethos) are used to build characters within the story?
  • Are there any fallacies used intentionally by the writer to demonstrate that a character has faulty logic? (In this case, the use of fallacies could be strategic, not an error.)
  • Are certain colors used to enhance emotions (the appeal to pathos), such as fear, happiness, sadness, nostalgia, outrage, etc.?
  • Are certain objects or the expressions/movements of characters used to enhance or demonstrate the emotions of characters (appeal to pathos)?
  • How is the story organized (which strategies were used), and does it enhance or detract from the plot?
  • Which literary devices are used to enhance the dialogue, the plot, or characterization?

(Foundations): In Depth Response to Christopher Columbus and Film on Christopher Columbus

Having watched the video, please now read the rest of Columbus’s Letter, which is from paragraphs six to seventeen. ( Here is the link for the handout “Letter of Christopher Columbus”): http://www.oshermaps.org/special-map-exhibits/colu…

Task: Part One:

Annotate as you are reading the letter. Copy and paste what you find are the five most important paragraphs onto Microsoft Word or any format that will help you meet your purposes. For Part One, include your annotations for five paragraphs that you found especially meaningful. Please see my handout on how to annotate within this assignment.

As you are reading and annotating the rest of the letter, please make note of the way that Christopher Columbus is writing. Continue thinking about Columbus’s methods of persuasion and the assumptions he makes about his audience.

Please be thinking about these questions as you are annotating: What does Columbus want to say? How is he trying to persuade his audience to his point of view? What assumptions does he make about his audience? As you are actively reading, continue to pay attention to word choice, tone, attitude colors, situations, repetitions, objects mentioned, interactions with others, and other elements that jump at you.

Part Two:

For Part Two, please carefully reread your annotations. In two very focused paragraphs, discuss what you commented on in the annotations. Namely, discuss these questions: How is he trying to persuade his audience? What assumptions does he make about his audience? As you are actively reading, continue to pay attention to word choice, tone, attitude colors, situations, repetitions, objects mentioned, interactions with others, and other elements that jump at you.

Refer to paragraphs 6 and beyond. Indicate exactly which paragraphs you are quoting and summarizing from. Since you already wrote about the first five paragraphs, please concentrate now on the rest of the letter. Please do not just concentrate on a limited section of the letter.

Please do not drop quotes. Lead into them and comment on their meaning. Explain your thoughts by answering the questions for this assignment. Please keep in mind that it is important to support your viewpoint with specific evidence from the letter. You should quote specific lines and or phrases.

Please refer to the rubric for this particular assignment and the others. This in depth response should be between one to one and a half pages. It is not a formal essay that requires an introduction, body and conclusion. However, if you find yourself covering different subtopics, please divide them into separate paragraphs.

Part Three: In one focused paragraph, explain your response to this question: Why do you think the information in the film has tended to be left out of the educational system in certain junior high schools and high schools?

Please disregard this section below:

Before you submit, have you:

1. Included four annotated paragraphs for Part One?

2. answered these questions?

Does Columbus’ writing prove his guilt or does it not? Does his way of writing prove that he was heading toward leading his men to the violence you learned about from the video? Make sure you refer to the video in your annotations; it is important to engage the facts you learned from it in your discussion.

3. For Part Two, have you written two focused paragraphs that answer the questions? Have you properly led into the quotes, quoted carefully and commented on the quotes?

4. included a part three and answered the questions?

Please carefully look through the full directions once again before you submit.

Rapid Review 3

Select a psychoactive drug that is of pharmacological interest to you, but not one you will review as part of your Critical Review or one that was included in your previous Rapid Reviews. For this paper, you may choose drugs of abuse; however, the paper must focus on the pharmacology of the drug and not on the social or addictive aspects. If you focus on addiction and social impact, your paper will not receive credit.

In addition to the text, research a minimum of three peer-reviewed articles published within the last five years on your selected drug. Prepare a three-page summary of the drug using the PSY630 Rapid Review Example paper as a guide.
In your Rapid Review, analyze and explain the pharmacological aspects of the drug as they relate to the following: neurotransmitters affected, receptors, route of administration, half-life, doses, side effects, drug interactions, contraindications, and other important facets of the drug. Explain these aspects of the drug in terms of the psychiatric disorders indicated for the drug and the issue(s) associated with that use. If there is no accepted therapeutic use for the drug, evaluate and describe the actions of the drug with regard to the abuse process.

The paper:

  • Must be three to five double-spaced pages in length, excluding title page and references page, and it must be formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
