Project #1: Design Thinking in Practice (the presentation)

WHY
To give students an opportunity to apply their understanding of the design thinking process to an entire project outside of class, something they care about.

For this project, pick a problem to solve in an organization you know (for example, your college campus, a company you have worked for, or a volunteer organization). Use the design thinking skills that you learned to identify a specific pain point for customers/clients, employees, or both. Conduct interviews, define, ideate, prototype and test your solution.

WHEN
Launch project at end of class (5)
Allocate time in class (6) to check in on progress, answer questions
By class 6, they should have conducted interviews
Present projects in class (8 & 9)

HOW
Conducted as individuals or in teams
Prototypes are encouraged and get better evaluation

GRADING
30% Demonstrated understanding/application of design thinking process (risk-taking, multiple insights/ ideas carried forward, learning from feedback)
20% quality and quantity of interviews (from summaries)
20% quality of journey map and insights (from journey map and HMW question)
20% variety of solutions and extent to which they reflect insight
10% quality of presentation (clear, compelling, engaging)
